Company History
Labcraft was founded in 1956 by Mr A.A.Luscombe (formerly of Thorn), Mr P Gregg and Mr B Fox. In 1961, the company pioneered the development of transistorised fluorescent lighting, which enabled the operation of fluorescent tubes from a DC supply, and created a wide range of market opportunities.
Initially, the demand for DC fluorescent lighting was for leisure vehicles where gas lamps and tungsten bulbs had been previously used. The benefits of high light output and reduced power were very well received.
Over the years, the applications became more varied and today include remote solar systems, commercial vehicles, military equipment retail displays and industrial equipment. New markets have brought new challenges leading to product improvements and in some cases specialised lighting products.
With a strong reputation for good quality and innovative product design, our success is based on understanding the needs of business-to-business customers. Some of the Labcraft products you will see have been so successful in fact, that they have been flatteredby the presence of numerous imitations (beware of the quality)!
Today Labcraft is wholly owned and run by the Luscombe family, with head office based in Saffron Walden, Essex.
